NEOSHO MAN KILLED BY
K. C. S. PASSENGER TRAIN

Joe (Tut) Richardson, 26 years old, who resided just off the Wood street road northeast of town, which suffered injuries from which he died when a southbound Kansas City Southern passenger train struck him as he sat on the track at about 2:45 o'clock Monday morning. Coroner Corley Thompson was called and took the injured man to Sale-Bowman hospital where he died an hour later without having gained consciousness.

According to Engineer Lee Smallwood of Pittsburg who was running the engine, he saw Richardson sitting on the track when the engine was almost upon him and was unable to stop the train. The man was not run over but his body was hurled 35 feet down the track. He was found to have suffered a skull fracture, a broken right leg and other injuries.

The accident occurred about 200 yards from Richardson's home. No reason for his being on the track was found, according to Coroner Thompson who investigated the case, but he might have been ill or asleep. The coroner said an inquest was unnecessary.

Mr. Richardson was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Richardson, 317 Wheeler street, and besides them he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nola Richardson, three children, Beverly Jo, Benny Ray and Barbara Ann, and eight sisters and brothers. He was a member of Battery C and had only recently returned from the regiment's annual encampment in Florida.

Funeral services were conducted at Thompson's funeral home at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the Rev. G. T. Kelly having the rites in charge, and burial made in Gibson cemetery.
