Gerald, 68, of DeWitt, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 6, 2013 in Lansing. He was the son of the late Verne Wallace and Alice Sophia (Tompkins) Hardman.

Jerry graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, MI in 1964. He was joined in marriage on February 6, 1965 to his wife Lana Smit and they have enjoyed 48 years of marriage.

Jerry joined the US Army and was very proud of his service in Vietnam. When he returned home he began working as a surveyor's assistant with the Stedman Company. He later joined the Clinton County Sheriff's Department in St. Johns, MI and retired in 2002. Most recently he worked at the Michigan Hall of Justice in the Security Department.

Jerry was an active member of the First Baptist Church of DeWitt and Grove Ridge Church gathering in Florida. Jerry was a collector of guns and was proud of the many dogs that he trained. More recently Jerry and Lana purchased a motorcycle and they spent many days traveling the countryside's in Florida and Michigan.

Jerry enjoyed his friends and could often times be found sharing a cup of coffee with them at the local McDonalds. Jerry will be remembered as a hardworking man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, sharing a "good laugh."

He is preceded in death by 2 brothers: Carol Hardman and Don Hardman and 2 sisters in laws: Jennette Hardman and Arlene Hardman.

Surviving is his wife, Lana, 2 daughters: Melissa Koz of Myrtle Beach, SC and Amy (Eric) Kleeman of Grand Ledge, the love of his life were his 3 grandchildren: Savannah Koz and Ezra and Amelia Kleeman, 2 sisters: Marion Handy of Clare, MI and Marceil (Richard) of Dorr, MI, 2 brothers: Charles (Rita) Hardman of AZ and Richard Hardman of Alma, MI, a sister in law, Sue Hardman, his dear puppy, Maggie, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were Monday at the First Baptist Church of DeWitt, DeWitt, MI, with Pastor Dan Wilkinson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of DeWitt or the Capital Area Humane Society, Lansing, MI in memory of Gerald T. Hardman.
