Deceased Name: DURWARD HARDESTY
Durward ''Duke'' Hardesty, 89, of the 8000 block of McCloy Road, died Sept. 8, 1999, at his residence. He was retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant junior grade. He was a member of Colonial Heights Church of Christ and was also a member of the Fleet Reserve.

He is survived by his wife, Lona Hardesty; four sons, Durward Roy Hardesty of Hampton, Ga., John R. Hardesty of Holbrook, Mass., James E. Hardesty of Virginia Beach and David I. Hardesty of Norfolk; one daughter, Linda Goldsmith of Norfolk; one brother, Everett Hardesty of Ohio; two sisters, Juanita Sell of Cumberland, Md., and Alice Gidland of Townsend, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rosewood Memorial Park by the Rev. Ken Gosnell. Memorial donations may be made to the Colonial Heights Church of Christ. Tidewater Funeral Choices is handling arrangements.
