Elnora Hanson Child,60, wife of A DOrr Child of Afton died at the Idaho Falls LDS
Hospital on Dec 6, 1974. Funeral services were conducted int he Afton Second=Third
Ward Chapel Dec 9 under the direction of the Afton Second Ward Bishopric. Burial
was in the Freedom Cemetery.
Elnora, the only living child of Heber and Priscilla Allen Hanson, was born in Salt
Lake City, Utah on April 13, 1914. She lived in Clifton, Idaho for the first two
years of her life before moving to Freedom, Wyo, with her parents. she attended
schools in Freedom and Afton, Wy. Elnora and DOrr solemnized their marriage int he
Logan LDS Temple on May 27, 1931 for time and eternity. They lived in Freedom on
the ranch by the west hills until 1969 when they moved to Afton.
She was never strong physically, having suffered from childhood diseases and
illnesses, but she still worked in the fields and learned to accept responsibility.
She learned the satisfaction and joy that come from hard work. These attributes
were a significant part of her life.
She was always active in church, attending church and Sacrament meeting in a
one-seated buggy with her parents. During her lifetime she held many positions in
the church, including secretary and visiting teacher of the Relief Society;
secretary of YWMIA; and secretary of Primary on several occasions. She and DOrr
shared responsibility on the Stake Genealogy Committee and as stake baptismal
Elnora had many hobbies. She was an expert cook, seamstress and homemaker. She was
never idle and always used her time for the benefit of others.
She suffered from many physical illnesses during the last 35 years of her life, but
she willingly accepted these challenges and made her life meaningful to herself and
She loved music, sang in church choir for years and bel9onged to a ladies chorus
that sang all over the valley for 10 years. She encouraged her family to develop
their musical talents. Music was an important part of her life and her home.
She loved doing temple work and genealogy and spent many hours serving the Lord in
She will be remembered as a gentle, kind, patient and understanding person, a true
friend to all who knew her. She set a beautiful example for her children. As a
wife, she was a true, faithful and constant companion, who without fail gave her
love and support.
She is survived by her husband, A. DOrr Child, Afton, Wyo.; sons and daughters, Mrs
Dwayne (LaRue) Wright, Honolulu, Hawaii; Jennylyn Miller, Salt Lake City, Utah; Vern
DOrr Child, Powell, Wyo.; Mrs Jeff (Diane) English and Mrs Donald P. (Claire) Lowe,
She has 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her parents, one brother, one
sister and one grandchild preceded her in death.
