Joanne Atkinson, 62, of Le Roy died suddenly on Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2008).

She was born March 22, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., a daughter of the late Josephine Hannon. She graduated from Plains High Schools in 1964.

She and her husband were married May 21, 1966, and moved to Le Roy in 1981.

Mrs. Atkinson was employed at the Greens of Le Roy, was a member of the Le Roy American Legion and a former bar tender at the Legion. She was an avid bingo player, former bowler, took casino trips and was a pet lover.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Thomas; two daughters, Wendy (Richard) Nelson of Le Roy, and Cheryl (Kenneth) Weaver of Crawfordville, Fla.; a son, Paul Atkinson of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hannon of Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Robert) Abromavage of Gouldsboro, Pa., and Linda (Richard) White of Hudson, Pa.; mother- and father-in-law, Thomas and Martha Atkinson of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; brother-in-law, Steve Martiak of Warrens, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Kathy Martiak.

Friends and family may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cameron Brady & Steuber Funeral Home, 111 Wolcott St. (Route 19 South) Le Roy.

There will be a Life Celebration Luncheon from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Le Roy Moose Center, following the calling hours for all friends and family members.

Memorials may be made to the Le Roy American Legion or organization of choice.
