Yuriy Handler, age 74, of Murphy, NC passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Handler was a native of Leningrad, Russia and a son of the late Lev Wolfovich and Marie Pavlova Handler. Yuriy was a college graduate and held a law degree in Russia before coming to New York where he was a Journalist and Director of Russian Services for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. He retired to Murphy in 1999 where he enjoyed fishing and working in his vegetable garden. Yuriy was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and a movie buff.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Albina Yeruzhnikov Handler who passed away in April 2010.
He is survived by two daughters, Paullina Simons of Northport, NY and Elizabeth Handler of New York City; four grandchildren, Natasha, Misha, Kevin and Tatiana and a brother, Alex Handler of Etowah, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at St. Andrew Russian Orthodox Church in Dix Hills, NY. Father John Klingel will officiate. Interment will be in the Lake Ronkonkoma Cemetery South in Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
