SLATON- Ruby Alspaugh, 82, of Slaton was born to Melton and Annie (Davies) Hancock on November 26, 1929 in Garza County, near Southland. She grew up in the Robertson community in Crosby County and graduated from Robertson High School in 1947. She married W. A. Bill Alspaugh on October 19, 1947 in Lubbock. They moved to Slaton where she was a homemaker and wonderful mother to four children.

Ruby was a gentle, kind person whose greatest joys were her family and friends. She was a longtime Sunday School Teacher in the Beginners Dept of First Baptist Church before moving to Highland Haven, Texas on the shores of Lake LBJ in 1980. She enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren, fishing, mahjong, and was active with the Ladies Club of Highland Haven. Wherever she lived and attended church, Ruby's pies were well known, especially her coconut pie. She and Bill returned to Slaton in 2004. They joined Bible Baptist Church and were active with the Slaton Senior Citizens Center.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Millard Hancock, Wesley Hancock, Kyle Hancock, Betty Nickell and Maxine Peoples. Those who survive her and who will cherish her memory are her husband, Bill; sons, Curtis, Joe and wife, Doris; daughters, Donna Englund and husband, Dubbin all of Slaton and Peggy Basinger and husband, Gary of Richwood, Texas; grandchildren, Eric (Tricia) Englund, Brett (Kristin) Englund, Kathy (Adam) Rasmussen, Jared (Katy) Alspaugh, Sarah (Justin) Propp, Tyler (Carmen) Basinger, Madison Basinger and Emily Basinger; great-grandchildren, Madi-Lynne and MyLeigh Englund; and brothers, Horace (Joyce) Hancock of Seminole and Harvey Hancock of Slaton.

The family suggests memorials to Slaton Meals on Wheels, 230 W Lynn, Slaton, TX 79364. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Bible Baptist Church with Chris Downer and David Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. There will be a family and friends visitation at the funeral home Monday, August 27, 2012 from 6 to 7 p.m.
