Died Saturday, at St. Francisville Country Manor in St. Francisville, where she resided for the past five years. She was born in Big Rapids, Mich.
She graduated from Big Rapids High School in the Class of 1930.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Arthur B. and Gwen Darr residing in Arizona, James A. II and Carol Daar residing in Missouri and Olivia D. and T.J. Woodside residing in Louisiana.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandon, James III, Jill, Elizabeth and Stephen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Anderson Daar; a brother, Kent Streator Hanchett; and a sister, Mary Hanchett Hughes.
She was the daughter of Arthur K. Hanchett, co-founder of Hanchett Manufacturing Co., and Grace Hanchett.
After their wedding, the couple lived in Detroit and returned to Big Rapids during World War II. After the war it was off to Niagara Falls, N.Y., and then to Houston. Eventually they moved to St. Louis and to Montclair, N.J. Upon retiring, June and Jim returned to June's beloved Big Rapids and lived at Clear Lake until Jim's ill health forced them to sell their home and move into an apartment in Fremont.
In 1999, Mrs. Daar moved to Louisiana to be near her daughter. Mrs. Daar was a past regent of Mecosta Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Clear Lake Community Club and Piecemakers Quilt Group in Freemont.
June was noted for her exquisite handmade quilts, many of which won blue ribbons at various quilt shows in the area. She dearly loved Big Rapids and was a true daughter of Michigan.
