Allen Hugh Hamlett, Sr.
(May 23, 1922 - August 14, 2006)

Pamplin: Allen Hugh Hamlett, Sr., 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, August 14, 2006 surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born May 23, 1922 in Charlotte County, he was a son of the late Harry Hugh and Mabel Taylor Hamlett. He was married 63 years to Mary Ellen Baldwin Hamlett and from that union God blessed them with ten children. By trade, Allen was an automobile paint and body repair technician. As an active member of Beale Memorial Presbyterian Church of Pamplin he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. In addition to his wife, Allen leaves to cherish his memory his surviving children and their spouses; Lawrence and Gail Hamlett and Kenneth and Katie Hamlett, all of Pamplin, Allen, Jr. and Rhenda Hamlett of Appomattox, Steve and Rebecca Hamlett of Spout Spring, Charlotte H. and Gene Hamlett of Appomattox, Brenda H. and Buck Wooten of Spout Spring, Denise H. and Phil Rogers of Concord, Delores H. and Bobby DeMuth of Pamplin, and Donna H. and Rodney Lawson of Concord. He is also survived by his sister, Clara H. Roberts of Richmond, 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Patty Hamlett Miller, sister-in-law, Mary Hamlett of Pamplin; a special family friend, Steve Blunt; loving care-givers Bonnie Lawhorne and Dory Reed and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his beloved son, Ralph M. Hamlett; two brothers, Edward and Earl Hamlett; his sister, Thelma H. Harris and a brother-in-law, Eugene Roberts. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 18, 2006 by the Rev. Bryan Garra and the Rev. Dr. Louis Skidmore with burial following in Beale Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Robinson Funeral Home Thursday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the residence.
