The first daughter of William M. and Euphemia (Donnell) Hamilton, Enrie was raised in the Clarksburg area of Decatur Co., IN. Early, she exhibited amazing musical talents, her mother having the first piano in the area.
Following the completion of the education offered by the local schools, Enrie enrolled in the Oberlin College Conservatory in Oberlin, OH. She was a student there from 1871 to 1875, where she studied both literature and music. She obtained her teaching certificate in 1875. Enrie then went south to Berea College in Berea, KY where she was involved in the development of a music department, ultimately becoming the head of the department. In Berea she met and married on Sep. 11, 1883, Edwin S. Fee, a son of the founder and president of the college.
The Fees eventually returned to Decatur Co., where they had a home near Clarksburg. They were members of the Clarksburg Presbyterian Church, where Enrie served as organist and choir director for more than forty years. Enrie was the mother of five children; two sons, Burritt H. Fee and William H. Fee, and three daughters, Mary E. Palmer, Nell M. Donnell, and Bessie E. Hardin.
"The funeral rites for Mrs. Edwin S. Fee, 79, a member of a pioneer Decatur county family, were held in the home in Clarksburg at 2 p.m. today, the Rev. Frederick Elliott, of Kingston, officiating, assisted by the Rev. W. W. Woodburn of Springhill. The burial was at Kingston cemetery."
