Bishop Doris Pickersgill Halyard , 99, transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 5, 2016. The heavens rejoiced, for another child of God has gone home.

Doris was born on February 16, 1917 to Anita Hemmings Pickersgill and Levi Pickersgill in Panama City, Panama. She received her formal education at St. Michael School in Jamaica, West Indies. She relocated to Brooklyn, New York in 1961 where she furthered her education In nursing and geriatric care and became a LPN. Mrs. Halyard proudly received her United States Citizenship in 1962. Doris received Christ at an early age and was the founder of St. Jude International Baptist Church. This church served the community tirelessly. It housed a daycare and a thrift shop. Coming from New York, she had been a resident of High Point for twelve years. In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, Otis Halyard; children, Franklin D. Hines, and Marvel E. Griffith preceded her in death.

Surviving relatives include children, Delores Wilmot of New York, Iva S. Wilmot of Florida, Everita Moore of High Point and Valeria S. Gobin of New York. She leaves a legacy of five generations of children and grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be 11:30am on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at The Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street, High Point. The family will receive visitors before the service on Thursday, 11 to 11:30am.
