Mildred "Millie" V. (Halterman) Garr was born on Thursday; January 1, 1925, in Grinnell; Poweshiek County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Marion and Vera (Short) Halterman. "Millie" attended Grinnell schools. She was united in marriage to Glenn L. Garr on Wednesday; July 29, 1942, in Unionville; Putnam County, Missouri. They made their home in Grinnell, Iowa until moving to Newton in 1951. She worked in factories most of her life, retiring from The Vernon Company in 1987 with over 32 years of service. Mildred was a member of UAW Local 997 Retirees Chapter, a member of Community Heights Alliance Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Mildred "Millie" V. (Halterman) Garr, age 83, passed away on Saturday; August 30, 2008 in the Monarch Wing at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton; Jasper County, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her son: Steven (Mary) Garr of Bussey; Marion County, Iowa. Her two daughters: Carol (Mike) Davidson and Joyce (Nick) Heck all of Newton, Iowa. Her two granddaughters: Tammy Garr of Baxter; Jasper County, Iowa and Tracy (Kevan) Lindley of Maple Grove; Hennepin County, Minnesota. Her one grandson: Troy (Renee) Heck of Lemoore; Kings County, California. Her two step-grandsons: Jimmy and Jason Lawr of Milo; Warren County, Iowa. Her one step-granddaughter: Dawn Keegel of Bussey, Iowa. Her seven great-grandchildren. Her six step-great-grandchildren. Her sister: Dorothy Smool of Newton, Iowa. Her brother: Donald Halterman of Moberly, Randolph County, Missouri. Her three sisters-in-law, Alta Mitchell and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,: Glenn, an infant daughter: Peggy, two great- granddaughters: Jennifer Hadaway, Jessica Lindley and two brothers: Martin and Robert Halterman. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday; September 03, 2008 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday; September 04, 2008 also at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mildred's honor for Hospice of Japser County, Iowa may be left at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
