George J Haines was born in Sonora, Sutton, Texas to William Thomas and Mattie Haines, the 4th of 8 children. He worked with his father on their Del Rio Texas ranch, and also in his tinning business, building windmills and stock tanks around Texas. After his father died in 1911, the family moved to Arizona. George served in the Army in WWI, but did not serve overseas. He became a police officer in Phoenix, AZ and as a probation officer in Prescott Az. He moved back and forth between Prescott and Lincoln several times before his death.
