Gayle Alice (nee Baker) Haight, just 18 days before her 85th birthday, died at the Fairfax Inova Hospital March 21, 2012 of causes incident to age.
She is survived by her five children: Clayton Price Haight, Shauna Rae Haight Dougherty and husband, Francis Dougherty, David Baker Haight and wife Bonnie, Matthew James Haight and wife Lisa; and Steven Paul Haight and wife Laurie. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Haight and her family are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Gayle was born in Ogden, Utah on April 9, 1927. She graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in Political Science and a minor in History with a certification to teach secondary education. She also earned a Master's Degree in Education from George Mason University. She was a fashion model and later became the district sales manager for LeVoy's fashion line encompassing five eastern states. She taught school in California, Arizona, Germany and retired from teaching after instructing government and history at James W. Robinson High School for 18 years.
She was a dedicated Army spouse following her husband to Germany, Greece, and many military posts in the US and supported him during his combat tours to Korea and Vietnam. She was also an Army Mom and Grandmother also sending several of her sons and a grandson into harm's way during multiple combat tours.
Gayle dedicated herself to her church and served in various volunteer assignments working with both the women and children in her church. She was the Stake director of Public Affairs and also volunteered at the Washington DC LDS temple as an ordinance worker.
A visitation period from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, 4911 Ox Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22032 on Friday, 20 April 2012.
The funeral service will be held the next day, Saturday, 21 April 2012 at the same location at 9:00 a.m.
Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Saturday, 21 April 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Please meet at the administration building at 12:30 p.m.
