Mr. James W. Hagendorf Jr., 84, of Laceyville, passed away peacefully at his home in Auburn Township, Susquehanna County early Sunday morning, April 18, 2010. He was born on December 12, 1925 in Philadelphia, a son of the late James W. Hagendorf Sr. and Gertrude Viereck Morris. Growing up in Philadelphia, that is where he would eventually spend most of his life. From 1943 until 1967, he served his country, with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hagendorf was employed by the U.S. government, working at the Philadelphia Naval Base, from where he would retire. From 1956 until 1995, their family lived in Bellmawr and Haddon Township, N.J. After moving to Auburn Township in 1995, he and his wife became members of the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville and he was also a member of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion in Black Walnut, Pa. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Hagendorf. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, the former Alice S. Neiswender, of Laceyville, and their children, James W. (Kim) Hagendorf III, of Pottstown, Pa.; Alice C. (Melvin) Jones, of Ocean City, Md.; Dawn L. (Taylor) Jones, of Bradenton, Fla., and Lori J. Hagendorf, of Pennsauken, N.J..; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Marion Ibbetson, of Croyden, Pa.; Theresa Herold, of Quarryville, Pa.; and Mary Margaret Lovecchio, of Philadelphia, and his brothers, Richard Hagendorf, of Philadelphia; Edward Morris, of Philadelphia; Arthur Morris, of Williamstown, N.J.; Douglas Morris, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Michael Matthews, of Las Vegas, Nev.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, with the Rev. Thomas Davis of the church, officiating. Interment will be in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, in Dallas. Graveside military services will be conducted by the members of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion of Black Walnut, Pa.; the Dennis Strong Post No. 457 American Legion of Tunkhannock, Pa.; and the Endless Mountains Post No. 3583 V.F.W. of Mehoopany, Pa. It was the wishes of Mr. Hagendorf that there be no calling hours. Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa. The Hagendorf family will be furnishing their own flowers, but those wishing may make memorial donations to the Awana Clubs International, 15877 Collection Center Dr., Chicago, IL 60693; or to W.P.E.L. Radio Station, P.O. Box 248, Montrose, PA 18801.
