Kenneth Hadlock, 92 of Dale, Texas, passed away on July 4.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1916 in Vernal, to Carl Hadlock and Rosa Minerva Eaton. Mr. Hadlock, a saddle tree maker, owned Hadlock and Fox Manufacturing Company and later sold the Business to his sons.
Kenneth married Sarah Velda Robbins on July 23, 1937 and they had six children; Kenna, Lonney, Bruce, Bret, Charlotte, and Lisa, they later divorced. In 2001 Kenneth married Naomi "Micki" Mitchell.
In 1940 they made their vows and were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had six children and raised them lovingly in Vernal and Texas, but were later divorced.
In 2001 Ken met Naomi J. "Micki" Morgan in Texas. They were married July 28, 2001 in Vernal. They lived in Vernal for several years and then settled in Texas- the best of both their worlds. They were devoted to each other and had a fulfilling eight years together. Micki was always at his side, caring for him 24 hours a day. She never faltered in showing him how much he meant to her. We will always love and appreciate her, Pam and Donald for the way they cared for him. Thank you "Micki Mom."
Ken was raised in Vernal and graduated from Uintah High School and was totally involved in sports. He played baseball, basketball, and football when they still wore leather helmets. He wanted to be a coach, but couldn't afford to go to college; so of course he went to work to contribute to their large family, but maintained a deep love for all sports. He was always an aggressive and dedicated worker, always ready to help his family and friends.
He started his own business, Standard Saddle Tree, Co. in the 1940's with two partners, Laurence Fox and Ray White. In 1962 they decided to move to San Antonio, and open a second company, Hadlock and Fox Mfg. Co. This company prospered and evolved, moving to New Braunfels, Texas and gradually built and added other businesses. A tannery to process their own rawhide to cover the trees, a saddle makers supply, a western wear store, a stirrup factory and trailer sales.
His whole family was very involved in the business; Lonney and Bret grew up in the saddle tree company and eventually took over the ownership. Their sons also grew up in the business, keeping to the traditions of family, learning, and hard work.
Ken along the way invented machinery to carve the individual parts of the trees in large volumes, rather than doing each piece by hand on a band saw, which greatly increased their productivity.
Kenneth eventually became very involved in his church. He first served as a branch president in New Braufels and worked tirelessly to get them out of financial difficulties. They sold barbecue plate lunches and had a bake sale among other things and through the participation of the whole branch, they became a ward. They were soon joined by the Randolph ward that had no building.
Ken then became Bishop Allred's, then became a Bishop and later served on the high council of the stake. Many people were helped by his counseling and his influence on their lives. He was a much loved man by family and friends alike.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Micki; daughters, Kenna L. Luck, Charlotte R. Zachery, Lisa and husband Donald Cantwell of Dale, Texas; stepsons, Michael K (Caroline) Morgan of Rice Lake, WI, Paul M. (Jean) Morgan of Lake Worth, FL; sisters, Opal (Clayton) Slaugh of Vernal, Theresa Larsen of West Jordan; 28 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Bruce and Brett Hadlock; and stepson Russ. B. Morgan; sisters, Verna (Ward) Murray, Ardith (Lowell) Robbins; brothers, Emil (Dallas) Hadlock, Charles "Chuck" Hadlock, LeGrande (Billie) Hadlock, and Curtis (Lillian) Hadlock.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday July 16, 2009 at the Vernal third LDS chapel at 11 a.m. Friends and family may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the mortuary, and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
