Miriam C. Applegate passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, N.J. She was 88.

Born in Bordentown, she had lived in Bordentown Township for 56 years.

She and her husband, Harry Applegate, owned and operated Applegate's Market in Crosswicks for many, many years.

Miriam enjoyed volunteering at Deborah's Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills.

She was daughter of the late Joseph L. and Helen V. (Hartmann) Haas; wife of the late Harry Applegate; mother of the late Harry Applegate; sister of the late Joseph W. Haas, Elizabeth and William Klemmer, and Margaret and Nathan Morgan; and sister-in-law of the late Chaz Orban and Rose Haas.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Deborah Applegate of Wrightstown; three brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Peggy Haas of Florida, James and Joan Haas, and Raymond and Betty Haas, both of Virginia; a sister, Helen Orban of Bordentown Township; two grandsons, Harry Applegate and his wife, Jessica, and Jason Applegate; two great grandsons, Harry and Drew Applegate; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31 at St. Mary's Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Interment will follow in Cream Ridge Cemetery, Cream Ridge, N.J. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, and again 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morris Hall, 1 Bishops Drive, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
