Former Chanute Man Succombs in St. Joseph, Missouri

Ernest A. Hodgden, 66, died Wednesday morning at his home, 107 East Hyde Park, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be held at 8 o'clock Friday morning at St. Joseph.

Hodgden grew to young manhood in Chanute, Kansas. He was born in Delaware, Ohio, October 4, 1875.

For the past several years he had lived in St. Joseph and was employed as city mail carrier there until a year ago when failing health caused him to retire.

He leaves his wife; six daughters; a son; two sisters, Mrs. W.S. Biggs (Addie Hodgden), and Mrs. Dan Bower Sr (Laura Hodgden), of Chanute, KS; and two step-sisters, Mrs. J.E. (Florence Holloway) Comer and Mrs. Dick (Ada Holloway) Burnett, of Parsons, KS; one brother, Tom Hodgden, and two half-brothers, Ora Hodgden, of Kimball, KS; and Fred Hodgden of Corsicana, TX; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ernest Alvador Hodgden died Oct. 22, 1941, at his home, 107 E. Hyde Park Ave., aged 66.

He was a retired mail carrier. He was born in Ohio.

He enlisted in the Army as a Volunteer in the Spanish-American War and served 8 years. He was discharged with the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant.

He carried the mail from 1917 to 1938.

He leaves his wife Mrs. Eleise Hodgden, 6 daughters, and a son, all here.

Funeral will be at St. James Church and burial in Mt. Auburn, St. Joseph, Missouri.
