Anthony "Tony" J. Gwiazdowski, age 78, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Claire A. (Brenan) Gwiazdowski, for 47 years.

Born in Highland, he was the son of the late Frank and Helena (Clemashiski) Gwiazdowski.

A resident of Stroudsburg for 41 years, he moved here from the Freeland area in 1959.

Retiring in 1986, he was employed as the division chief of receiving supply quality control at Tobyhanna Army Depot for 39 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the PT boats.

Tony was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg, where he was an usher and member of the soup kitchen.

He was a member of the Fr. Butler Council Knights of Columbus 4084 Stroudsburg, where he was a warden on the degree team. For many years, he was in charge of the Keep Christ in Christmas Billboard, and the distribution of food baskets for the needy at holidays especially at the Monroe County Correctional Facility. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight in Assembly 980.

Tony enjoyed visiting people in the nursing homes throughout the county.

In addition to his wife, Claire, he is survived by one son, Anthony D. Gwiazdowski of Harrisburg; two daughters, Mary Kay Freedman of Bethesda, Md., and Jane Drury of Jenkintown; one sister, Leona Yeschalk of Bound Brook, N.J.; one brother, Alex Gwiazdowski of Twin River, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
