It's possible he died November 30, 1890 as that date appears in the following obituary:
The Dental headlight: A Quarterly Record of Dental Science, v. 10-12
Dr. Lyman T. gunn, died in Dresden, Tenn., at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Jno W. Moran, November 30th 1890, in his seventy first year. Dr. Gunn was born near Boston Mass, April 1 1810. Received his dental education in Philadelphia. Commenced practice in Nashville 1838. He was twice married, his first wife, Miss Carolina Morehead being half sister of Ex. Gov. Charles Morehead of Kentucky. She was the mother of seven children, only two of whom survive him. He was married the second time in 1855, this wife survives him. Dr. Gunn practiced dentistry also in Boston, McMinnville, and a few years in Texas. His remains were interred in the City Cemetery at Nashville, December 2nd.

The Gunn Bible revealed that Dr. Gunn died of "tropical affection."

Dr. Lyman Taft Gunn was born in Montague, Mass., April 1, 1810. He descended from the Montague's of England and he was also connected with the Taft Family. His mother, Mary Lyman Taft Gunn, died shortly after his birth. After her death, young Lyman spent the early years of life with the Taft family, predominately with Mrs. Taft, the grandmother of President Taft.

He was educated in Boston and studied dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania where he received his degree. He moved to Nashville a few years before the Civil War and was one of the first dentists in Nashville. He was associated with a Dr. Morgan and he practiced dentistry for over 40 years in Nashville.

Dr. Gunn's first wife was Caroline Morehead Gunn. Together the couple had six children. Caroline passed away in 1855. His second wife was named Mary Ann Hall.

Lyman Taft Gunn was a prominent citizen in Nashville and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Gunn was at the home of his daughter, Sophia Riley Gunn Moran in Weakley County TN, when he passed away. He was buried in Nashville's City Cemetery in the Gunn Lot. Unfortunately, most of the Gunn family headstone's have been lost to vandalism, weather, and time.
