Shirley Mae Groover Brockington, of Savannah Georgia died Monday, April 3, 2017 at Memorial Hospital.


Born in Pembroke, Georgia, July 15, 1947, to the late Mr. Jessie Louis and Evangelist Ruth Bulloch Groover. Shirley attended Pembroke Elementary and Pembroke High school where she graduated as Valedictorian. She also graduated from Savannah Technical College with an Associate’s degree in Business and Marketing.

She chose a career as a Secretary, where she worked for the Chatham County Board of Educations for 25 years. Shirley later worked as an Administrative Assistant with her church, Royal Church of Christ.

Shirley loved the Lord with all her heart. She joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age. She joined the Royal Church of Christ where she worked tirelessly until her purpose had been concluded. At Royal Church of Christ, she worked within the Administration, the Nurse Guild, Hospitality Ministry, Choir, and Secretary of the Trustee’s Board Ministry.

Shirley is survived by two son’s Minister William (Minister Lazetta) Groover Sr., Mr. James (Anna) Groover of Savannah Georgia; two sisters Dr. Gloria G. Brown of Savannah Georgia, Elder Brenda G. Veal (Dr. Jimmy L. Veal) of Douglas Georgia; two brother Mr. Leroy (Wanda) Groover, Sr., Mr. Louis Eugene Groover of Savannah Georgia; two uncles James Bulloch, Deacon James (Ann) Smith of Savannah Georgia; two aunts State Mother Rachel (Bishop Louis) Hills, Pembroke Georgia and Ernestine Bulloch of Savannah Georgia; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
