Elkhart Lake – Mrs. Charlotte Groene, wife of Henry Groene, died Sunday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hieronyhius Meyer in the town of Rhine, less than two weeks after the death of her husband.
Mrs. Groene was born on Februyary 22, 1851 in the town of Herman on the Fravert Homestead. She was united in marriage with Henry Groene, March 18, 1871 in town Herman. Her husband died November 5, 1930. One daughter, Mrs. Susanna Steitz preceded her in death twenty-three years ago. Mrs. Steitz is survived by one son, Reuben, aged 4, who was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Groene.
Those who survive Mrs. Groene are six daughters and four sons, They are Conrad Groene of Falon, Nevada; Mrs. Carl Klemme, Mrs. Herman Schmidt, Mrs. A. Reichert, Mrs. L. Schroeder, Edwin and Herman Groene, Mrs. H. Meyer, Mrs. G. Speckman and Henry Groene Jr. Twenty-seven grandchildren and a brother, Henry Groene (sic)of Greenwood, also survive.
The deceased was a kind and devoted mother and was loved by all who knew her.
The funeral will be held at the H. Meyer home east of Elkhart and at Saron Reformed Church. Rev. Vriessen will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
