Obituary - Goodwin

Marcella Agnes Grisham was born in Webster County, Mo., June 2, 1870, and departed this life on July 21, 1930, at her home in Lafontaine. Death came after nine months of severe suffering, most patiently endured.
On February 29, 1892, Miss Grisham became the wife of Albert Madison Goodwin of her community. Upon the death of her mother, Mrs. Goodwin and her husband remained with her father to care for him. In 1896 Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin and son, Albert moved to Kansas, residing for many years at Idana, Clay County. In 1920 they came to Lafontaine, having lived at the last earthly home of Mrs. Goodwin for the past ten years.
At the age of 15, she united with the Methodist church. There being no Methodist church at Mrs. Goodwin's early Kansas home, she transferred her membership to the United Presbyterian church. For many years she has been affiliated with the Christian church of Lafontaine, remaining a loyal Christian.
The devoted husband, five children and thirteen grandchildren remain to mourn the loss of wife and mother. The children are Albert of Lafontaine, Charlie of Ida Grove, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Highley of St. Louis, Mo.; Tommy of Picher, Okla., and Mrs. May VanBuskirk of Lafontaine. Each of the children had spent much of the time during their mother's illness at her bedside. Illness in his family called Charlie home on Saturday, previous to his mother's death. Most tender was the care received by mother and wife at the hands of children and husband.
Four sisters and two brothers survive Mrs. Goodwin: Mrs. H. A. Wattenbarger, Blanchard, Okla.; Mrs. N. M. Blacksher, Gainesville, Mo.; Tom Grisham, Gainesville, Mo.; Mrs. Myrtle Kindstrom, San Bernadino, Calif.; and Mrs. N. M. Capehart, Neosho, Mo.
Funeral services were conducted at the Lafontaine Christian Church on July 23, Rev. Howard Benton and Rev. A. A. Horner officiating. Burial was in the Fredonia Cemetery.
