Mr. Donald L. "Don" Grimes, 67, of West Burlington, died on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 12:27 p.m. in his home.

Born on May 19, 1942 in Corydon, IA, he was the son of Cleve O. and Josephine Earley Grimes. He married Joyce A. Metz on June 17, 1965 in Keota, IA. She passed away on May 20, 1987.

Don attended Prairie City High School and then served in the US Navy for four years.

He was currently employed for Mike Nelson Concrete & Paving. He previously worked for Shipley Construction for 30 years and Worley's Asphalt & Paving as a General Supervisor.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, Nascar racing, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He faithfully attended SCC Blackhawk basketball games.

He is survived by three sons; Jeffrey (Jamie) Grimes and Scott (Karen) Grimes of West Burlington, and Duane Grimes of North Liberty; five grandchildren, Bailey, Lea, Matthew, Eric and Charlene; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jaric, Jakeb, and Jezden; four brothers, Robert Grimes of Haleyville, AL, Michael Grimes of Sun Valley, NV, and David and Steven Grimes both of New London; three sisters, Bertha Weber and Linda Kempf of Phoenix, AZ and Bonnie Worley of Burlington; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister Ruth Eckrich.
