Mary Georgiana Barnwell Grimball, of Charleston, departed this life peacefully May 19, 2012.

Miss Grimball was born on February 4, 1928, in Charleston, the daughter of Arthur Grimball and Jennie Rose Coffin Grimball.

She graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and the Junior League of Charleston.

Miss Grimball was the owner for 40 years of 82 Church Street, the small children's shop which helped dress generations of little girls in Charleston bonnets and smocked dresses and the little boys in appliquéd suits.

She is survived by her sisters, Jane Grimball Greely and Haskell Grimball Carr, brother-in-law Thomas W. Carr, eight nieces and nephews: Marian Chapman Greely, Jane Greely Cowan, Alice Greely Nelson, John Grimball Greely, and Rose Nesmith Greely, Thomas West Carr Jr., Arthur Grimball Carr, Sara Gatewood Karaus, and 16 great nieces and nephews.

Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, May 31, 2012, at eleven o'clock in St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Interment at Magnolia Cemetery will be private.
