Charles William Griffis, 74, of Champaign, Ill., a former resident of Stockwell, died at 11:51 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in Heritage house in Champaign, following an illness of 3½ years. Mr. Griffis was born at Crane Station in Tippecanoe county, Sep. 22, 1919. He moved to Champaign from Stockwell in 1946. He attended Stockwell High School and was a member of the Laborer’s and Hod Carriers Union Local 703, in Urbana, Ill. He was formerly employed at the Clinton Power Plant, and was a former farmer and had worked in construction. A World War II, Army veteran, he was a member of the VFW Post in Champaign. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia DeWalt of Urbana; and a brother, Dale Griffis of West Lafayette. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, Landis-Loy Stockwell Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to service at 2 p.m. Interment Johnson Cemetery. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, and a brother.
