Florence "Irene" (Griffin) Adkisson was born on June 16, 1908 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, and she was the daughter of Robert Luther Griffin (1884–1941) and Jessie Florence (Clendening) Griffin (1885–1917)


She was married on December 1, 1927 in Wilson County to Clarence E Adkisson (1905–1988), the son of Lillian (Demerich) (Adkisson) Harwell (1886–1942) and her 1st husband William J Adkisson.


Irene was 80 years old and a widow when she passed away on December 26, 1988 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.


Preceded in death by her parents and by her sister Ruby Alberta (Griffin) Hulan (1913–1983), she was survived by sister Dorothy (Griffin) McConnell of Nashville, brother Walter Powers of Nashville, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a 2nd-great-grandson. {NOTE on siblings - Dorothy is actually a half-sister, and Walter Powers is not a blood relative but rather the son of Irene's stepmother. Funeral Services were held at Ellis Funeral Home, and burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
