Born June 1, 1924, in Franklin, Betty Jane was the daughter of the late Claude and Mary Victoria Deeter Orr.
She was married Jan. 27, 1942, to Charles F. Griffen, and he preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1987.
Betty Jane was a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin with the exception of the six years she resided in Claremont, N.H.
She was a former member of Worden Chapel.
Through the years her hobbies included bowling, bingo, flea marketing, avid Betty Boop collecting and sitting on her sun porch.
Betty Jane loved her family dearly, and the joy of her past 11 years was her grandson and best friend, Ben Griffen.
She was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of her eighth great-grandchild.
Mrs. Griffen is survived by her son, Charles Franklin Griffen II of Franklin and his companion, Maria Doyle; and her daughters, Carol June Bastian and her husband, Thomas, of Claremont, N.H., Gwendolyn May Landry and her husband, Louis, of Claremont, N.H., and Renee Griffen Wood and her husband, James, of Suffield, Conn.
She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Wendy Poitras and her companion, Joseph O' Connell, Kelly Bastian Hooper and her husband, Richard, Eric Bastian, Karla Landry, Brooke Landry and her companion, Richie Bovell, Peter Wood, Philip Wood, Elissa Wood Nasiatka and her husband, Joseph, and Benjamin Griffen; and her seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Griffen is additionally survived by her half-brother, Charles McKinney of Florida; her half-sister, Mary McKinney of Meadville; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cat, Wilma.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty Jane was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter, Lawrence, Jacob and Raymond; her sisters, Ethel, Cleo, Irene, Helen and Alice; her half-sister, Charlotte; and her close friend and niece, Eleanor Vogus.
Family and friends of Betty Jane will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Borger from Titusville First Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Peters Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kirtland Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 108, Franklin, Pa., 16323; and/or The Salvation Army Thrift Store, 316 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin, Pa., 16323.
