"This monument is erected in memory of DAVID GRIERSON, by all who knew him justly esteemed one of the best men, who died December 17th, 1762, and of his age the 44th by his most affectionate consort, BARBARA HOATSON."

"There also lies the body of JAMES GRIERSON, eldest son of DAVID GRIERSON & BARBARA HOATSON, a youth of most promising hopes who died in JUNE, 1759 of his age the 13th."

"BARBARA HOATSON also died the 14th April, 1797, in the 75th year of her age and her remains are here buried."

"Also their youngest son, THOMAS GRIERSON, [Writer to the Signet] [in] Edinburgh who died 17th September, 1836, aged 65 years."

"Also MARGARET GRIERSON, who died at New Galloway in 1835, aged 81 years."
