Julian Griego, age 80, a lifelong resident of Peralta, NM, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2007, after a short illness. He was born on September 4, 1926, to Jose and Anita Griego. He proudly served with the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Ironworkers Local 495 in 1983. He loved going fishing with his brothers-in-law, Osben Garcia and Rick Tapia and loved having matanzas with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and brother-in-law. He was the most "easygoing" person anyone could know. "Asi es la vida," as he would often say. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Anita Griego; his brother, Salomon Griego; his sisters, Rufina Sanchez, Criselda Mancha, Susie Griego and Eufelia Jaramillo; his in-laws, Ofelio and Victoria Tapia, Alfredo Sanchez, Adenago Sanchez, Felipe Tapia, Gilbert Maez, Pula Griego and Tano Gonzales. Julian is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Frances Griego of the family home; daughters, Roberta Romero and her partner, Frank Putnam of Albuquerque; and Anita Griego of the family home; sons, Alan Griego of Albuquerque, Kenneth Griego and his wife, Jeanette of Hobbs, NM. Mark Griego and his wife, Gina of Chicago, IL; and Anthony Griego of the family home. Twelve grandchildren, Sonia and Nicole Jojola, Francisca Griego, Gabriel, Lexy and Sara Griego, Kenzi and Jenae Griego, Jessica, Joshua and Jennifer Griego and Anthony Paul Griego, Jr.; Six great-grandchildren, Reina and Joseph Jojola, Santiago and Samantha Jojola, Mikaela Griego, and "Pumpkin". He is also survived by sisters, Tersila Sanchez of Valencia, NM, Elvina Torres and her husband, Jose of Peralta, NM; and brothers, Ramon Griego of Los Lunas, NM, and Orlando Griego and his wife, Teresa of Peralta, NM. He is also survived by in-laws, Felicitas Maez, Rosie Garcia, Osben Garcia, John Tapia and his wife, Carmen, Richard Tapia and Lucy Gonzales and many nieces and nephews and friends who loved and respected him to the fullest. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, NM. A final visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass celebrated by Father Hoi Tran at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Interment will follow at Valencia Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandson Gabriel Griego, granddaughters, Kenzi Griego and Francisca Griego, nephews, Raymond Sanchez and Lesmen Griego and brother-in-law, Rick Tapia.
