He was a farmer and former employee of McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. He was a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was the widower of Gertrude Rowan Grider.
Survivors include the mother of his children, M. Faye Grider; four daughters, Louise Wesley of Liberty, Brenda (and Barry) Ellison of Stanford, Nancye Grider Ayn of Somerset and Deborah Mages of Jamestown; a son, Vernon Jr. (and Emma) Grider of Liberty; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Garry Lee Grider, Jeffrey Andrew Grider and Danny Dale Grider; two brothers, Ollie C. Grider and Earnest Grider; and a sister, Nola Grider.
Funeral services were Feb. 20 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Bro. C.B. Carman and Bro. Jonathan Grizzell.
Burial was in Fair Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Funeral Squad.
Pallbearers were Ricky C. Wesley, James B. Ellison, Gary Todd Grider, Timothy G. Grider, Jason Mages and Derrick L. Wesley.
