Beulah Louise Watson Gresham
Birth: Dec. 8, 1885
Tennessee, USA
Death: Dec. 5, 1926
Fulton County
Georgia, USA

Wife of Dr. James Lemuel Ernest Brantley - married 3/20/1904 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. Born in Tennessee. Both parents also born in Tennessee. Her parents were Walter Watson and Frances "Fannie" Unknown/Watson - (according to her death certificate).

Others are making her the daughter of Peter P.or B. Watson and Sallie C. Tillman/Watson. Peter died sometime about 1875, so Beulah could not be his daughter. Other children are also being attributed as Sallie's children - they are siblings of Beulah - Ola E. or Olie Watson and Tillman Watson. Also, in the 1900 census, Sallie C. Tillman/Watson says she had given birth to 3 children, with two living. Her daughter, Mary Delilah Watson died about 1897, leaving her two children living - Alonzo Howlette Watson and Cora Vastine Watson. These two children were living with her in the 1900 census. This does not include Beulah, Tillman or Olie in that count, so who the father is, is unknown at this time. Olie is living with her in the 1900 census, so there are lots of questions, with no answers. There is also a delayed birth certificate for Olie with Peter P. & Sallie as parents - of course this cannot be as Peter died 7 years before his birth.

If you can help on any of this information, please contact me.

Have copy of death certificate. Beulah was also married to Charles Raymond Gresham (7/26/1887-10/12/1942). She died as Beulah Gresham. Apparently she and Dr. Brantley had divorced after August 1922 and she remarried. She is buried beside Dr. Brantley, the father of her six children. Beulah died of pulmonary tuberculosis.

She and Charles Raymond Gresham, also had two children together. Beulah Virginia Gresham was born 7/26/1923. Juanita Oldine Gresham was born 8/1/1926. When Beulah died, her younger daughter, Juanita, only four months old, was given up for adoption. Charles Gresham raised Virginia - she died in 2004. What happened to Juanita is unknown - she has never made contact with the Gresham or Brantley family.

Beulah's last address was 972 S. Pryor Street, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. She was aged 40 years, 11 months, 27 days.
This is almost unbelievable, but at long last, we have found Juanita - the baby who was given up for adoption. She is linked to Beulah - actually on two pages - one is her birth name - Juanita Oldine Gresham and the other her adoptive name of Mary Ellen. Please see her pages and look at the resemblance to her mother, Beulah and her sister, Virginia. Juanita was adopted out in 1927, who would believe almost 100 years later, we were able to connect with her family and receive pictures of her. This was almost unbelievable, because we did not know what her adoptive name was. I added a page for Juanita and asked for any family members to contact me - her daughter did just that, six months later. We could not be happier. We were all on the phone back and forth, almost dancing about the house - we were all wound tight !
Dr. Brantley was my first cousin, twice removed.
Note: If you have information on Juanita or any other member of this family, please contact me. Myself and two other cousins, Linda & Debra, are working on this family trying to document all the names. We could really use your help.
The Atlanta Constitution

The announcement is made of the engagement of Miss Beulah Louise Watson and Dr. J. L. E. Brantley, the marriage to take place on the night of Wednesday, March 20, at the home of the groom's parents. The bride is a beautiful, brown-eyed accomplished young lady and has a host of friends and admirers in Atlanta. She has resided with a former schoolmate, Mrs. Badgett, on South Pryor Street, since the loss of her parents. The groom is the son of Dr. J. P Bradley (s/b Brantley) of 506 South Pryor Street.
Beulah gave birth to nine children. There is one child missing and may have died young. If you have any knowledge of this child, please contact me.
The 1910 census shows that Beulah had given birth to three children with one living - that child was Thelma.

I have looked so long for Dr. Brantley and his wife. Believe that she was related to LOLA WATSON and that they moved to Atlanta at approximately the same time (about 1900) and that Lola Watson (? Craig) was boarding with them before her later marriage to...(Read more)
