EDGAR LEROY GREGG
1886-1945

Edgar Leroy, son of William Nathan and Sarah A. gregg, was born near Creighton, February 13, 1886 and died at the Wetzel Hospital in Clinton July 21, 1945.

He was married to Ethel Pearl Martin, February 9, 1908. To this union four sons were born, Edgar M., Carl N., Harold J., and Kenneth, and one daughter, Frances May Helms, allof whom reside near Creighton, except Carl N., who lives in Seattle, Wash. He united with the Christian Church when yet a young man and lived a consistent Christian life.

Mr. Gregg was truly a son of Sherman Township, not only was he born and spent most of his life here, the same was true of his father and grandfather. While his great-grandfather was born in Ohio he was one of the early settles of Sherman Township and spent the greater part of his life here. They were all tillers of the soil and knew the delight of having a good corn crop.

He was interested in our public schools and saw that his children had such educational advantages as our local schools afforded. He was kind to his family and a good neighbor.

The death of Mr. Gregg was due to an accident a few minutes before noon July 18. He attempted to climb upon a combine which his son was using combining grain about two miles west of Creighton. It is supposed his feet became intangled in a bunch of sweet clover which prevented him from securing a safe foothold, and when his sonlooked back the combine had passed over his body, breaking his thigh. He was taken to the hospital at Clinton for treatment. Complications arose and he died of thombosis of the brain about three days after the accident.

Besides his devoted wife and children he is survived by three brothers, George A., Earl A. and Ora L., all living near Creighton; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Maupin and Mrs. Anna Hogg of Kansas City, Mrs. Della Winkler of Pleasant Hill and Mrs. Daisy Kepner of Urich; many nieces and nephews, ten grandchildren and a host of friends.

The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Gilbert Weidman of Windsor at 2:30 o'clock tuesday afternoon. Flower girls were six nieces, Doris Lee Gregg, Dottie Davis, Anna Louise Wubbenhorst, Margaret Berry, Roena McQuitty and Jaunita Hendrix. Casketbearers were Arlie Gregg, Hobert Creighton, Dale Crawford, Fred Wehmeyer, E. F. Jones and Charles Masonbring. Burial was in Parker Cemetery.

Appreciation -- to all who assisted during the illness and after the death of our beloved husband and father, and to those who honored his memory with floral tributes, we extend our sincere thanks. Wife, Sons and Daughter.
