Gregory Garth Greenfield, 58, Washington, Ill., formerly of Mitchell, died April 21, 2011, at Royal Oaks Care Center, Kewanee, Ill.


Graveside services will be at a later date in the summer at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian.


Arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.


Gregory was born on Sept. 20, 1952, at Mitchell to Marion and Martha (Highland) Greenfield.


He attended Goodwin School through eighth grade and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1970.


He graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in December 1974 with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill., for many years.


He is survived by a sister, Kandee Strand and husband, Duane, Mitchell; a brother-inlaw, Doug O'Neill and wife, Mary, Brookings; nieces: Heather Lathrop and husband, Kevin, Sioux Falls; Brittany O'Neill and Laurel O'Neill, both of Brookings; Kari Bolt and husband, Lyndon, Rapid City; nephews: Erik O'Neill and wife, Ann; and Sean O'Neill, all of Brookings; and Jaimie O'Neill and wife, Becky, Sioux Falls.


He was preceded in death by his sister, Demetra O'Neill, his parents and grandparents: John and Clara Greenfield and Grover and Eva Highland.
