Passed away after a 16-year-long valiant and courageous battle with her health. She was born to Marvin and Gayla Fuhriman Green. Karen graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. After serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Peru, she graduated from Brigham Young University and worked as a Registered Nurse. She married Kent Ray Bascom in 1977 and they became the parents of six children and three grandchildren. Karen was full of life and loved everything that was beautiful and pleasant. She enjoyed gardening, handiwork, art, scrap booking, family history work and most of all being with her family. Karen endured a catalogue of debilitating illnesses with inspiring patience, optimism and grace. Though her body was fragile, her vital spirit anchored all who knew her-family, friends, and the many medical professionals who attended her. Her life's work was to teach her children how to mold the abundant life from the raw material of adversity. Her amazing faith, courage, determination and strength inspired many. Her legacy of love and faith will always be a source of strength for all who knew her. Her son, Ty Bascom, father, Marvin R. Green, mother-in-law, Venice Bascom, and brother M. Newel Green preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Kent Bascom, whose own cheerful faith mirrored and strengthened his wife; by five children, Nathaniel (Andrea) Bascom, Natalie (Devin) Anderson, Chris Bascom, Caralee Bascom and Tom Bascom; her three grandchildren Zachary, Isaiah, and Ava, her mother Gayla F. Green, brothers Bryce (Karla) and Dwight (Amy) Green, and sisters Alesa (Mark) Curtis, Gaylamarie (John) Rosenberg, and Maylarie (Rob) Ostler. Viewings will be held on Friday, April 14 at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State in Orem, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, April 15 at the Orem Timpview Stake Center, 1050 North 600 West, from 9:00-9:40 a.m. immediately prior to the funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Karen will then be interred at the Orem City Cemetery..
