|Death: ||Sep. 9, 1909|
Nancy was the daughter of William and Mary Ann Miller Gray. She married Ephriam Brown on February 18, 1847 at Lancaster.
•Obituary-Mrs. Nancy J. Brown, widow of the late Ephraim Brown, died at her home, in this city, on the 9th, being 84 years of age. Appropriate funeral services were conducted, in the Lancaster cemetery, in the presence of many relatives and friends, by Rev. C.C. Brown, and the mortal part of that pure and much loved woman, was laid to rest beside her husband.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church, and her excellent traits of character endeared her, not only to her splendid family, but to all who know her.
She left seven children, all who are prominent and move in the best society. They are Mesdames J.A. Royston, this city, W.O. Parks, Columbus, Mississippi, Geo. H. Bruce, Spring Lake, New Jersey, J.N. Lake, Terre Haute, Indiana; Messrs. W.G. and J.R. Brown, of Chicago and R.G. Brown of Leavenworth, Kansas. These are worthy, highly respectable and their lives evince the worth of the parental training with which they are blest.
The following is contributed: Mrs. Nancy Gray Brown, the wife of the late Judge Ephraim Brown, was the daughter of William Gray, of the Philadelphia Gray family, and who was noted for his piety and Godly life in this community. She was gifted with fine mental endowments, and her ambitions and ideals were high, but for many years she was a semi invalid which disqualified her from active service and her earthly life was far from what she had hoped it would be in achievement.
In life her beautiful faith sustained her and in her declining years she longed to be with her Saviour, and in Heaven she will realize all of her anticipations, her wishes and her hopes, and her glorified spirit pursues the lofty career of its immortality.
