Lou Verta Gray, 72, of the 1400 block of Richmond Ave., died June 10, 2000, at Maryview Medical Center.
Born in Bertie County, N.C., she was a supervisor at Joseph Parker Recreation Center, City of Portsmouth, Parks and Recreation, for two years. She was a member and church secretary at First Church of Deliverance, Portsmouth, and a member of the board of directors of Cascade Retreat.
Survivors include her husband, Jessie Gray; a stepdaughter, Carol Waldon of Hampton; a sister, Verlean Irvin of Norfolk; a brother, Ulysses Dunston of Norfolk; two stepgrandchildren; a great niece, Porschea Stevens Gray of Portsmouth; a special friend, Jessie Mae Davis of Portsmouth; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of Deliverance, 1824 Deep Creek Blvd., corner Lincoln St., Portsmouth, by Pastor E.M. Woodard. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens , Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
