EVA GRAVES OBIT
Eva Marie Graves passed to the home Eternal, early Sunday morning, December 11, 1978 at the Grim-Smith Hospital in Kirksville, where she had been a patient since November 21st following a fall at her home.

She was born June 13, 1892, near Lancaster, the eldest daughter and second child of George and Elmora Sheperd Hulen. She was 85 years, six months, 28 days of age. She grew to womanhood in this community, was graduated from Lancaster High School with the class of 1910. She also attended the then Kirksville Normal School majoring in Teachers' Training. She taught several years in the rural schools in the county, until her marriage to Fred. W. Graves on September 19, 1917.

She is survived by a brother, the Rev W Perry Hulen of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Mrs Leonard (Edith) ballew and Mrs. K.O.. (Georgia) Whitacre, both of Lancaster; many nephews and nieces and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred on October 31, 1947 and her father and mother.

Following their marriage Eva and Fred resided on a farm near Lancaster and later owned and cooperated a grocery store in Lancaster.

Being a life long resident of this vicinity Eva enjoyed a wide circle of friends and was well known. She had resided at the Hotel Apartments for the past 12 years. Although she was not ill, she had been in failing health the past two years following an injury from which she never fully recovered.

She was an active member of the Christian Church as long as health permitted. She was a 50 year member and a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of the Lancaster Garden Club.

Eva had varied interest. She was an ardent gardener and loved flowers. The ecstasy of a full blown rose made her day. She loved children of all ages and had a special interest in her nephews and nieces and looked forward to their visits. She was 'Aunt' Eva to many. Because of this and her interest in education a memorial Fund has been established in her name for the Library at the new Schuyler County R-I Elementary School.

As we close this final chapter in her life, those of us who know and lover her will remember her as a kind and considerate person, and especially that through the joys and sorrows of her life she was able to keep her delightful sense of humor and ready wit.

Funeral services were conducted at the Lancaster Christian Church Tuesday, December 13, 1977 at 3:00 p.m. by Bob Scholfield, minister of the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Guy Gardine was soloist, Maureen Watkins, organist. Selections 'Abide with Me', and 'Perfect Day'.

Pallbearers were James Jackson, Jim Cottey, John Vandike, Robert Watkins. Interment in the Arni Memorial Cemetery, Lancaster, MO. Arrangements by Norman's Funeral.
