Ref: Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, IA, 5 Feb. 1998, pg. A6 – Delhi, IA – Mildred Gaddie, 88, of Longwood, FL, formerly of Delhi, died after a long illness, Tuesday morning, Feb. 3, 1998, at the Florida Lutheran Home, Deland.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Delhi United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Connors officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mrs. Gaddie taught in Greeley, Hopkinton and Delhi school districts before moving to Florida in 1959, where she continued teaching until retiring in 1973.
She was born on March 24, 1909, in Delhi, daughter of Tom and Mary (Eggimann) Grapes. She married Robert Gaddie on May 27, 1933; he died in 1970.
Surviving are three children, Mary Lou (Bruce) Swinburne, of Little Rock, AR, Thomas L. (Joy) Gaddie, of Cedar Rapids, and Wanda (Harold) Reedy, of Deland, FL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hazel Knott, of Cedar Rapids, Letha Bacon, of Webster, FL, Bernita Gray, of Monticello, and Aileen (Iver) Anderson, of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, Robert and Delbert Grapes; and a sister, Wilma Harbach.
