During WWI William T. Granfield was an Army Corporal assigned to Company L, 114th Infantry, 29th Division. He was inducted on May 1, 1918 and honorably discharged on May 31, 1919. He was lost during the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane, while an employee of the Veterans Work Program. He was listed as missing after the storm, body unavailable for burial. A Finding of Fact was approved by the Monroe County coroner on June 21, 1937.
