Mrs. Artie Missie Graham Battle, 93, of Fitzgerald, died October 20, 2016.
Mrs. Battle was born on January 30, 1923, to Henry and Martha Lowe Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Henry Battle, siblings, Ira Lee Graham, Willie Mae Holland and Pearlie Zanders, and her 6-month-old daughter, Jeanette.
She and her husband were married in 1942. They had nine children over the course of 17 years and worked hard to insure their children would have what they needed in life and to instill in them good Christian values. When Mrs. Battle was 80 years od, she was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness. She was a member of the Fitzgerald congregation.
A homemaker, she was known for her skills in sewing, canning, cooking, quilting and gardening. For 17 years, she was a cook at the Colony House (now Life Care Center). She did some carpentry, too.
Survivors include sons: James Edward (Thelma) Battle, Sam Henry (Veta) Battle, Jr.. Robert Battle and Samuel Lee (Ann) Battle, Daughters, Doris Battle, Hattie Mae (Edward) Thomas, Annette Jackson and Juanita (Fred) Smith; sisters-in-law, Christine Murray and Jeanette Battle; daughters-in-law, Rosetta Manning Battle and Evelyn McElroy; 27 grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Services were held at the Kingdome Hall. Interment was at Macedonia Cemetery in Wray.
Hall's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
