Velma Lucille Cochran, 90, died on Friday Aug. 12, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born in Escatawpa, MS on July 6, 2016 to Albert and Lucille Graham and was the oldest of 6 children.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harold R. “Bill” Cochran, and her brothers Johnny Graham and Huey Graham.

Velma is survived by her children, Albert (Dorothy Ann) Cochran, Joe (Georganne) Cochran and Mary (Bobby) Harrell. She leaves three sisters, Thelma (Tony) Tristani, Lavada Gunter and Faye Beardslee. Velma had numerous grandchildren and loved them all.

Velma was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and attended the Community of Christ Church in Escatawpa. She served as a leader of the Women’s Dept. for many years. Also she worked on the Fund Raising Committee held yearly at the Jackson Co. Fair Booth, where many pies and Seafood Gumbo were prepared with a lot of hard work and effort by the congregation. To everyone she knew she was a consummate mother and homemaker, excellent cook, who enjoyed cooking meals for her family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Community of Christ Church from 10-11:00AM, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00AM. Officiating will be Thad Boykin, Betty Sue Boykin and Jo Ann Lutes. Pallbearers will be Hal Cochran, J.R. Harper, Matthew Bankston, Josh Welzbacher, Allen Scott and T.J. Scott. Honorary Pallbearers are Todd Harrell, Jeff Welzbacher and Todd Gallaher. A private graveside service will be held on a later date at Biloxi National Cemetery.
