From the book "1980 History of Perry Co., Ohio"; publ. by Perry Co. Historical Society, 1980:
"Charles Weiner ... married Veronica, daughter of Andrew 'Andreaus Gatzman' Gossman, who came here from Baden, Germany in 1825."

The following information provided by Charles and Veronica's great-great-great granddaughter, July 2021:
Veronica's husband CHARLES KARL WEINER (father FRANCIS) was born December 25, 1818 in WURTTEMBERG, GERMANY, and died August 10, 1884 in CHAPEL HILL, PERRY COUNTY, OHIO. He married (1) VERONICA FRANCES GOSSMAN February 01, 1842 in ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, CHAPEL HILL, OHIO, daughter of ANDREW GOSSMAN and ANN Keiser. She was born April 30, 1818 in BADEN, GERMANY, and died July 22, 1866 in CHAPEL HILL, PERRY COUNTY, OHIO. He married (2) ANN CUNNINGHAM 1875. She died December 06, 1894.

Charles Karl Weiner was the first child of Franz and Catherine Weiner. He was born on the 25th of December, 1818 in Wurttemburg, Germany. Charles went to school in Germany and also in York Township after the family arrived in 1831. It was found that he could read and write English through his business transactions and his Last will and Testament which was written and signed by him in 1875.

When the family left Germany, Charles was about 13 years old and it was related to me by his granddaughter, Margaret (Weiner) Souders who was in her 80th year, that Charles was a stowaway aboard the sailing ship. The ship's crew found Charles and set him to work for the balance of the voyage to pay for his passage. The only explanation being that by saving his fare there would be that much more money for the family to get started in the new land.

Charles and his brother John worked on their father's 160 acre farm and it is assumed that either their father paid them or allowed them to sell a portion of the produce grown for their future nest egg.

At the age of 24, Charles married Veronica Frances Gossman. They were married in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Chapel Hill, Perry County, Ohio, February 1, 1842. Veronica was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Gossman who had come to York Township from Baden, Germany in 1825. Witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Cradok and Frances Giegh. The priest was Father Aegidius Olivetti.

Charles purchased from his father the East 80 acres of their farm on June 3, 1844 and paid his father the sum of $450.00 cash. He also purchased from John Brooker an additional 40 acres which was West of his father's remaining 80 acres, giving him a total of 120 acres of farmland. For this 40 acres Charles paid $250.00 in cash. This would have been quite an impossible task in those days for a young man to have this amount of cash money, unless he had saved for many years.

There was also a log house on the 80 acres that Charles purchased from his father and in this log house all of their four children were born. Charles and Veronica were prospering and happy with their children and their parents still living nearby, however, in 1858, Veronica's father, Andrew, died and the same year Catherine Weiner, Mother of Charles, also died.

Time passed until 1865 when Charles's father died and the following year at the age of 48, Veronica also died. The cause of her death is not known. Charles buried Veronica one grave separating his father in the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Perry County, Ohio. When Veronica died their youngest child was 14 years old, their oldest child, Catherine was married and the following year their son, John Andrew, married, this left Jacob who was 16 and Mary Magdalin at home with their father.

With his daughter Catherine, his son John Andrew and his brother John, already land owners and living in the Chapel Hill area, Charles sold the farms in York Township and began to buy large tracts of land there.

Charles Weiner married for the second time in 1875. He married his housekeeper, Mary Ann Cunningham. She was born in Ireland in 1840. They then employed a servant, a young girl of about 13 and her name was Johana Wiseman. Charles made his Last Will and Testament at age 57, the same year that he was married.

Charles died on August 10, 1884 and his sons buried him at the Chapel Hill Cemetery between his father and his first wife, Veronica. His will stated that the house and all books and furnishings along with 200 acres of land would go to his wife Mary Ann. He also left her one horse and saddle, two red heifer cows and two calves, plus $125.00 in cash and another $600.00 cash if needed, plus provisions for herself and the livestock for one year.

His children all received $1,000.00 cash and the balance of his land holdings and his insurance, amount unknown. However, two years later in 1886, Mary Ann Weiner, married Robert Bennett. All that was left to Mary Ann by Charles, was then given to the children of Charles. Mary Ann died on December 16, 1894 and Robert Bennett died in 1897
