Katheryne Elizabeth Gossman Christman, daughter of George and Pauline (Gerber) Gossman, was born December 29, 1928, in Lemmon. She graduated from Lemmon High School with the class of 1946.

She was united in marriage to Reinhold (Rhieny) Christman on September 16, 1947 in Lemmon. Eleven children were born to this union. They resided in Lemmon until moving to Mobridge on January 13, 1963 to expand their electrical contracting business .

In addition to being a full time Mother, Kate was the bookkeeper for their business. When the family purchased the Mobridge A&W she became the full time manager.
After her husband Rhieny passed away in 1975 the business was eventually sold to their son, Mike and Judy Christman. Over the years, Kate worked at the Oak Keg, ALCO green house, and fireworks sales. One of Kate's most rewarding work experiences was with the Mobridge school lunch program.
She served many children their meals, introducing them to vegetables, healthy eating habits, and cleaning their plates.
Her foresight in noticing children were always hungrier on Mondays, was later confirmed when the weekend backpack lunch program began. Long after her children were grown, Kate continued to care for children at the after-school day care program.
Kate was always actively involved with the St. Joseph Catholic church serving on the Altars Society, Pre-school board, managing the announcement sign, counting the offering, teaching catechism, grocery receipt redemption program, along with cleaning the church, school, and rectory.

Kate was also a member of the Mobridge Moose Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Eagles. She was an avid sports fan following the Chicago Cubs, keeping peace among her family during the Vikings and Steelers games, and most recently following NASCAR driver #5 Mark Martin. Kate valued time with family and friends and was always up to the challenge of a game of Upwords, Bonanza re-runs, feeding squirrels and birds, and quiet time with needle and thread.

Survivors include sons: Rick, Steve and Bob of Mobridge; Jeff (Marlene) of Pollock and daughters: Ginger and Connie Christman of Spokane, WA; Diane Christman of Mobridge; Mary Leuning of Owatonna, MN, and Nancy (Tom) Hepper of Wing, ND; daughter-in-law, Judy Christman of Maryville, TN; two sisters, Georgia Satter of Rapid City and Polly Maher of Mitchell; two brothers, Jake Gossman and Bob Gossman of Ben Wheeler, TX; 14 grandchildren: Jody Christman, Erin Reisner, Lindsey Christman, Grant, Emily, Grace, Jack, and Anna Leuning, Nichole Heagy; Rudie and Cash Hepper; Brent, Brian and Ross Odde; and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons Mike and David (Bean); grandson Randy, and siblings Pete, Mary, Rudy, and John.

Kate lived her faith daily, dedicating her life to caring for others. We the living are challenged by her example to "bury our sorrow in doing good deeds". Miss me, but let me go.
