Iva Jean Davis-Goretski, 92, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center. She was living at Montvale Estates at the time.

She was born March 25, 1923, in Sweetwater Ill., the daughter of Caliph Luther and Nancy Caroline Garner-Davis. Jean married Bill Goretski in 1948 in Buffalo, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1997.

She was a member of Buffalo Christian Church serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for 20 years.

Jean attended Lincoln Schools graduating in 1942. She was employed at Allis Chalmers before Joining the Navy Waves during WWII. After her Military service she then worked at Hobbs until her retirement.

Jean kept active bowling in a women's league and serving in many military clubs and events. She was a member of AM VETS, Navy Club, and served on the Advisory Boards at Quincy Home for Veterans, and Mantino Veterans Home. She was President of the Sangamon Valley Waves until it dissolved, and Associate member of the Woman's Over Seas League. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #755 Women's Auxiliary.

She was proud to serve on the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County honoring fallen soldiers.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dean Davis, Duppie Davis, and Caliph Davis; three sisters, Bernice Davis, Viola Yeazle, and Nancy Wolcott; one niece; and two nephews.

She is survived by two brothers, Sam and James, eighteen nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct honors.
