Anna Barbara Hebig - Native of Hesse, Germany near Hersfeld and Salzberg.

Anna Barbara Hebig was the daughter of: Johannes Hebig and Barbara Elisabeth Braun

Anna was married to: Johann Heinrich Gundlach on March 27 1826 at the Evangelical Reformed Church of Raboldshausen, Germany

Heinrich Gundlach [husband], Anna Barbara [wife], 4 daughters: Anna Elizabeth, Anna Barbara, Anna Maria, Anna Catharine all emigrated to America aboard the Bremen Barque Weiland, which sailed from Bremen and arrived on July 7 1857, at the port of New York. Heinrich Gundlach was bringing his family to America to join is eldest daughter, Anna Barbara, and his son, Henry Jr, who were already located here, near the village of Berlinville, Erie County, Ohio.

It is not know exactly how the Gundlach family traveled from New York to Berlinville, Ohio, but it is suspected that they went by way of the Erie Canal to Buffalo, and then across Lake Erie to Cleveland or Huron, that being the easiest routes available at that time.

After arriving in Erie County Heinrich set about providing a home for his family. Land Records of Sandusky, Ohio shows that HENRY GOODLOCK, purchased 8 acres of land across the road from the Philip Huff farm in Sept 1857. The deed records show that Johann Heinrich Gundlach had anglicized his name - translating the Heinrich to Henry and adapting the German Gundlach to the English Goodlock.

While in Germany, Henry Goodlock was listed as an Agriculturalist. Henry Goodlock Sr and his wife did not learn the English language, but as they had located in the midst of a German settlement in Erie County, this was not a great handicap to them. Henry Sr died, June 17 1867 having had 10 years of life in the New World, and not quite 67 years old. He is buried in the Huff Family Plot in the Berlinville Cemetery.

Anna Barbara continued to live in the little frame house on the Goodlock farm. Residents in the area recalled seeing her carry her butter and eggs to market, walking along the road carrying her basket on her head. About 1885, when her health began to fail she went to live with her youngest daughter, Mrs Catherine Reiber. The exact time of her death is not readily known, but the deed to the farm was signed by the Erie County daughters on the 28th of November, after which it was sent to Lenawee County, Michigan, where Henry Goodlock Jr and his wife Elizabeth Henning and her husband signed on the 5th of December. The deed was then sent to Henry County, Ohio, where Anna Bechstein and her husband signed it on December 12th 1885. The document was then recorded on February 8 1886, giving the Goodlock Family Farm to Anna Barbara's Granddaughter, Mrs Catherine Peters.
