CONNEAUT — Margaret E. Fails, age 96, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015, at The Villa At The Lake.
Born Sept. 24, 1918, in Platea, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Mary (Gates) Goodenow. Margaret was a graduate of West Springfield High School and had attended Erie Commercial College.
She was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church, and the former East Conneaut United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 20 years. She was a member of the East Conneaut Child Conservation League, Conneaut Historical Society, the Canasta Club, the Golden Circle and Seniors Club at the Federated Church in East Springfield, Pa., and the City of Conneaut Civil Service Commission.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, volunteering at the Brown Memorial Hospital Thrift Store, and traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Holy Land, and Rome.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Rob) Neff of Eaton, Colo.; her son-in-law, Clayton Read of Kingsville; her grandchildren, Douglas (Carmel) Read of Dunkirk, Ind., and Kimberly (Stanley) Carr of Warren, Pa.; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Read, Nathaniel Read, Hannah Read, Sarah Read, Isaiah Read and Rebekah Read; and nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon Fails; her daughter, Joyce Read; her great-grandson, Josiah Read; her brothers, George, Arthur, James and Paul Goodenow; and her sister, AnnaMae Shafer.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 13th, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Jan Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, Pa.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the Service at 11 a.m.
Contributions may be made to New Leaf United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
