Charles D. Goodale, 72, of O'Fallon, IL, born October 5, 1937 in Peoria, IL, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Charles had been a member of the University United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL. One week after college graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie S. Edmondson. This marriage has now lasted 51+ years, survived the raising of 3 great children, and has endured nine moves and five employers.

He is currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in O'Fallon, IL. Charles attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL receiving his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, BSME in May 1959, a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering in Jan. 1965 with Phi Kappa Phi honors and his Masters of Business Administration in Dec. 1979 with Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma honors. Charles employment career started as a graduate engineering trainee at Caterpillar Tractor Company. He later worked for the Illinois Division of Highways and in December 1964, he began employment as an assistant project engineer at Pabst Brewing in Peoria. From 1968-1981, Charles taught a physics or math course each semester in the night school at ICC and 1980-1981 taught a business education course at Bradley University. Charles was employed from 1982-1983 at A.E. Staley as the maintenance manager, wet corn mill. In 1983 he began his employment with Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis, MO as Manager, Operations; Engineering/Maintenance. In Dec. 1986 his position changed to that of Director, Operations; Engineering/Maintenance, until his retirement in 2003. Charles also earned his place as a Registered Professional Engineer.

Charles has said of his life, "There are far too many interesting occurrences within this time period to discuss even lightly. Suffice to say that my wife and I became regular long distance travelers. We endured, we prospered, and sometimes we persevered as problems became opportunities. Failures were almost always turned into success. When retirement came, we were ready." Charles also enjoyed many sports. He was an avid golfer, winning many awards and truly loved family fishing vacations in Minnesota and Canada.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Franklin Goodale.

Charles is survived by his wife Bonnie, nee Edmondson, Goodale of O'Fallon, IL, mother Lillian, nee Smith, Goodale-Florey of Peoria, IL, 3 children; Bonnie Lynne (Scott) Phillips of Wichita, KS, Tammy Goodale of Duluth, MN, Charles "Chuck" Robert (Renee') Goodale of Oglethorpe, GA, a brother Alan Franklin (Linda) Goodale of Metamora, IL, grandchildren; Ashley (Paxton) Grinslade, Charlie, Nicholas and Nathan Goodale, Jared Phillips, Rachelle and Kris Phillips and a great grandchild Paxton Benjamin Grinslade.

Burial will be at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Peoria, IL.
