MARTHA E. GOLTRY

Martha Elizabeth Goltry, the youngest child of A.R. Goltry and Pearl Ashba Goltry, was born on December 31, 1915, at their farm home near Russell. She passed away on April 23, 1992, at the Chariton Manor at the age of 76.

Martha graduated from Russell High School in 1933 and attended one year of classes at Parsons College. While there, Martha was a member of Parsons Philharmonic Choir.

She lived several years in Burlington with her sister, Beryle, working there as a beautician. She then moved to Fairfield, where she lived for 15 years, returning to Russell in 1963 where she worked as a breakfast cook for many years at Morgan's Cafe in Chariton.

She is survived by one brother, Keith Goltry, of Platteville, Wisconsin, three sisters, Beryle and husband Wally Cole of San Diego, California; Lucille Carlson of Des Moines, and Margaret and husband Loren Dillman of Russell. Also nephews Jerry Dillman and wife Sherry, and Tom Goltry and wife Carol, nieces: Marjorie Goltry of New Jersey, Judith Waddle and husband Dwight of Monroe, and Jeanette Dillman of Guerneville, California. Great nephew, Scott Goltry, great niece, Anne Goltry, both of Wisconsin, Katherine Birmingham and husband Ed and baby of Des Moines, Nelda Wynn and husband Mike and baby of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Nelle Goltry, brother-in-law Vern Carlson and an infant neice, Josephine Goltry. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 1992 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Hambleton officiating. Burial was in the Russell cemetery. Serving as pall bearers were Mike Wynn, Jerry Dillman, Dwight Waddle and Victor Phippen.
