Carl Thomas Goltry, son of Frank and Mary (Wright) Goltry, was born May 11, 1893 and departed this life Nov. 2, 1979 at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital, Chariton, at the age of 86.
All of his active days were engaged in farming on the Goltry home place, except for the time he served in World War I. He entered the Armed Service on Dec. 14, 1917 and was stationed in England and France from July 14, 1918 until Feb. 19, 1919.
On Dec. 20, 1925 he united in marriage with Stella May Moore. Together they made their home on a farm southeast of Russell until 1968 when they moved to Russell. In 1975 he then moved to the Chariton Manor where he was a resident until his death. Through the years he was active in the Charly Clark Post 308 of the American Legion and a World War I Barrick Charter member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Stella; one infant son, Harold Dean; two brothers, Wright and Leonard Goltry and one sister, Ethel Thompson.
He is survived by one daughter, Aletha Jean Cooper; one son, Duane Moore Goltry; one son-in-law, James Cooper; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Goltry; one grandson, Jim Cooper; two granddaughters, Linda and Lisa Goltry, and one great-granddaughter, Evin Cooper; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Wauneita McConnell conducting. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery.
